Hi!  I’m Lisa.  You probably knew that already.

I would like to fancy myself a world-class chef, accomplished seamstress, interior decorator, photographer, and perfect mother and housewife.  In reality, I’m really just a pretty decent copy-cat. I would never refer to myself as “talented;” it’s more like “creative.”  Mostly, I’m just good at learning from my mistakes.  Which is good; ’cause I make a LOT of them.

In January 2013, we made our latest move out to Colorado Springs, and after living in Washington, Chicago and Ohio over the last four years, it finally feels like we’re home.  Leaving Ohio meant waving goodbye to two years worth of gutted bathroom remodels and kitchen renovations; and although it was a painful parting, we get to start all over again with our new house.  Even the smallest task is a pain in the ba-donk-i-donk; we have two little humans and two companions of the four-legged variety constantly underfoot.  It seems like we always bite off just a tiny bit more than we can chew.

Things I’m Pretty Good At:

  • Cooking
  • Proper usage of the F-Bomb
  • Sewing
  • Making an ass of myself in public
  • Staying creative on a teeny budget
  • Using a staple gun
  • Passenger-seat driving

Things I Have to Work On:

  • Maintaining a level head under the mutiny of two small children
  • Cooking “vegan”
  • Lowering my reliance on caffeine
  • Using tact when dealing with the general population
  • Horticulture
  • Reconciling my feminist ideals with real life
  • Miraculously winning the lottery – though I have never actually bought a ticket

We love to travel (and usually do it in our tiny little “House With Wheels,” a 14′ Aliner Camper).  The Hubs is an avid outdoorsman, and I do my best to fool him into believing that I am, too.  (I ‘spose that is a bit of a misnomer, since I DO enjoy the outdoors; I’m more of an innocent bystander – he builds a mean campfire and I roast a mean marshmallow.)  Personally, I’d rather spend every day at Disney World, eating ice cream and riding Space Mountain all day.

Our life is a work in progress…  But isn’t it always?

  1. You, my friend, are awesome. I am adding you to my blog roll, so that others may bask in your awesomeness.

  2. No clue how I stumbled on this web page. I cant even remember what i was looking at. You’ve been booked marked. 😀

  3. You live in the exact same model that I live in. We are just finishing up with a main floor remodel and got new carpet in the bedrooms. We love it. I noticed your picture at the Cheyenne Mtn Zoo. We love that place. I’m curious as to which city you live, if you don’t mind my asking. We live in Castle Rock.

I totally agree with you about the mulch. We have replaced a lot of with mulch gardens and are getting rid of the rest of the rock this summer.

Hope you and the family are enjoying Colorado.

  4. Hello. My 6 year old son wants to be a purple minion for Halloween. I know it’s last minute but I work 12-14 hr days and don’t have time to DIY his costume.
Do you do costumes and if so, how much for a purple minion or just the hat?

I am beyond thrilled to have discovered your blog, and look forward to hearing more 🙂 You sound like a kindred spirit!

(….my husband has threatened on more than one occasion to buy me a tshirt that says “I am a classy, intelligent, educated woman who says FUCK a lot.” I don’t think he realizes I keep hoping today is the day he follows through on it….)

    • Thanks, Natalie!! If you end up getting one of those shirts, drop me a line. Or rather have your husband drop my husband a line so they can commiserate with each other about their classy wives. 🙂

  8. Hi Lisa.
I am writing from Italy! I couldn’t help noticing your Lucy-Despicable a Me costume. I would like to ask u a huge favour: could I buy it from you for a carnival outfit?
    Let me know

  9. Hey Lisa,
I was searching for some inspiration for my son’s room and I came across your post-blog. I love Finn’s room you guys nailed, so so cool!!!! Now I have a couple questions I hope you can answer…did you buy the loft bed or your hubby made it ? What about the indoor rock climbing board, did he also build that ?
Looking forward to hearing from u 🙂 Thank you in advance !!!

    • Thanks, Mona! My husband did build both the bed and the rock wall. I’m not the one who is proficient with a table saw and can’t give you all the specifics on how he built it. But, I do know that he made a frame for the rock wall and the bed out of 2x4s. The bed is elevated by two shelving units made out of 3/4″ plywood and 4×4 posts (then anchored to the studs in the wall). I don’t have the specs on anything, but here is a post showing some of the “in progress” shots: https://anotherbigbite.com//?s=labor+day&search=Go We used plywood to cover the rock wall frame and ordered the holds online. Wish I could be a little more help, and happy decorating! 🙂

  11. hello 🙂 I love what you and your husband did with Finn’s bedroom! I was wondering if you had any plans for the bed? Or any building tips/tricks? I’m just going to throw out there that I have zero wood working experience and my husband has minimal lol. But we are capable (I’d like to think). My husband and I are in the process of buying our first house together and we’d love to make our little girl a similar bed. It is awesome!

    Looking forward to your reply!

  12. His Lisa! I love you costume for Lucy and gru!!! Can you tell me what pattern you used? If you remember? That is what we are being for Halloween this year. With our two little minions!
